Sarratoga Springs Mom Wins International Writing Contest

Sarratoga Springs mom, Claire Stibbe was announced as the Writing Award fiction winner in the Page Turner Awards at the online ceremony, where Paul Michael Glaser from Starsky and Hutch fame was a special guest to announce the winners.

The Page Turner Awards, sponsored by ProWritingAid and Campfire, offers authors, writers, and screenwriters the chance to enter the first 10 pages of their writing project, where a judging panel of literary experts and film producers will read the work.

Stibbe’s winning submission, No Good Lie, is a psychological thriller described as: He falls for you. He buys you flowers. He breaks into your home. He wants you. Even if it kills you.

This story was written in response to being a survivor of domestic violence. After completing the Albuquerque Police Citizen’s Academy, Claire became a reporter for Stand True 4 Blue, a nonprofit organization that strives to be a sustaining source of support for Law Enforcement and all First Responders. Now she writes full time and lives in Utah with her husband and son.

Stibbe moved to America over twenty years ago, living her dream. She began dating a man whose attention slowly became violent. After the birth of her son, she took her baby in the middle of the night and ran to a friend’s house. She made a report to the Police, and upon speaking to the responding officers, discovered they were already familiar with this man.

Although a restraining order was filed for a period of one year, it did little to discourage the offender. As he continued to violate the protective order by sending threatening letters to kidnap her son, the police caught him. As Stibbe looks back at the struggles she endured, she hopes her story will educate and empower other survivors.

Stibbe said: “Huge thanks to everyone at Page Turner Awards! This is so much more than a literary award, it’s a great way to build confidence in your writing and to learn the many facets of publishing. A highly professional panel of judges, editors and well-respected agents adds quality to the experience. For anyone sitting on the fence about submitting their unpublished manuscript, Page Turner Awards is a great opportunity for you as an author. I will forever be grateful to them and to the talented pool of writers I’ve been honoured to meet. I’m absolutely gobsmacked! In fact, I'll be pinching myself for months.”

This year several aspiring writers walked off the red carpet with life-changing prizes. One new unpublished writer won literary agency representation, while a screenwriter won literary management. Another new writer won a publishing deal, seven independent authors won an audiobook production, plus one other won a publishing package (including an edit, book cover and book trailer), and another author won a book adaptation.
