Grief Inspires Fantasy Novel For Grandmother

Local grandmother, Larae Mitchell from Minatare, Nebraska, is hoping to be discovered as a writer with her Fantasy story, Nerida Kai: Sad Blessings.

Larae has entered the Page Turner Awards, where published and unpublished fiction and non-fiction from all genres can enter their writing to get discovered by high-profile judges from the literary world. In particular, Larae is hoping that one of the literary agents and publisher judges will get hooked on her story and publish her Fantasy Fiction.

Why Nerida Kai: Sad Blessings? Larae said the story is about
Shaktiri's world which is shattered by loss and renewed by discovery, and she will prove she is strong enough to swim life's moving streams.

Larae lost her son in a hiking accident in 2017. She began searching for books that could help her understand and cope with grief. In doing so, she discovered a new passion: writing.

Knowing first-hand about the sorrow of losing a child, Larae has written about loss and recovery, but in a fantasy world. She chose mermaids and designed their existence with inspiration from her granddaughter who loves mermaids.

Larae would love to have the locals from Minatare and Bennington supporting her. Readers can vote for her book and add any constructive feedback to her story, thus helping Larae improve her chances of getting noticed by the judges: https://pageturnerawards.com/fantasy/nerida-kai-sad-blessings

Larae said, “I chose to write from a small town perspective because I raised my family in Minatare, Nebraska. My daughters still reside in Minatare and Gering so the panhandle will always have my heart.”

She added that she wanted to believe there are things in the world that we don't see. She wants to believe in mermaids and have her grandchildren maintain the same feeling of wonder as they grow.

The Page Turner Awards, sponsored by ProWritingAid, wishes Larae the best of ‘Mermaid Luck.’ Two different awards, the Writing Award and the eBook Award, aim to help writers and authors to get discovered. Hopefully, with feedback and votes from Minatare residents, Larae will be one of them.

The Page Turner Awards offers writers and authors the chance to enter unpublished or published fiction and non-fiction books, where a group of literary agents will read the work. One writer is guaranteed to be published.

Find out how you too can enter your writing into The Page Turner Awards: https://pageturnerawards.com. Submissions are open until 30 April 2020.
