J. Drew (pen name) is a physician and transgender man from the American Southwest. As a prior Fulbright scholar, he worked as an English Teaching Assistant at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City for the Center for Foreign Language Education (CELE). He completed his medical degree (M.D.) with a scholarship from the Point Foundation for LGBTQ students and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. His work in transgender health has been published in Pediatrics, Endocrine Practice, and The International Journal of Transgender Health. His fiction writing serves to highlight the narratives of transgender people. His partner, Shruti Bala and him run the Instagram @Jhumpasfifthstreetlibrary. Their Merciful Sun (renamed On the Surface of the Sun) is his first novel.
