Cute story!
Great lesson too, about being who you are and who you were meant to be!
I love the premise. I think…
I love the premise. I think the problem is in the execution. The narrative contains multiple scenarios for humour and scope for elaboration of what is a very topical subject. It feels undercooked and not quite living up to the promise of a fun read with a serious message. The story comes full circle but the ending lacks conviction because we don't really see the impact of Timothy's experiences as we go along.
A lovely message about…
A lovely message about accepting yourself, and wonderful illustrations. The story might be stronger if there is a reason for each of his attempts to be something else failing. E.g. he gets too tired on the springs to be a cricket, or they're not strong enough to keep up with the others. Also consider the age range the book is aimed at, and the language you use. Some trickier words are fine to help children expand their vocabulary, but be aware of having too many words where they will struggle with understanding e.g. adorned, proclaimed.
