Mark Stibbe is the 2020 Fiction Writing Award winner and is judging our 2021 eBook Award.
Mark has loved storytelling since he was a child. Born in 1960, he was adopted by Philip Stibbe, a star pupil of CS Lewis. Inspired by his father’s passion for stories, Mark became a senior scholar of English Literature at Cambridge University where he was awarded a double first, and subsequently a PhD in storytelling, published by Cambridge University Press.
Mark then went onto write many non-fiction books on spirituality before, in 2012, migrating to fiction writing. In 2020, he completed A Book in Time and submitted it to the Page Turner Fiction Awards and was thrilled to have won the Fiction Writing Award.
Mark is passionate about writing stories of magical realism which, in the words of WH Auden, help readers to unlearn hatred and relearn love.
I am very much looking forward to reading the 2021 entries, and also working with the wonderful team at the Page Turner Awards.
Mark is a full-time writer who lives in Kent with his wife Cherith and their Black Labrador Bella.
Along with Mark's achievement as the Winner of the Writing Award in 2020, Mark also won literary agency representation by Yasmin Kane of the Kane Literary Agency in London.
Mark's favourite quote is from W.H. Auden:
There must always be two kinds of art: escape-art, for man needs escape as he needs food and deep sleep, and parable-art, that art which shall teach man to unlearn hatred and learn love.
