Gale Winskill is judging the Page Turner Writing Award in search of exciting, new voices and original storylines.
She has over 30 years of publishing experience in the UK and abroad, both in-house and as a freelancer, and is an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). Gale has a wide range of experience across fiction and non-fiction, including structural and developmental editing and copy-editing, as well as proofreading and critiquing.
Some of her authors have won or been shortlisted for various prizes, including the Crime Writers’ Association John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger Award, the Owned Voices Novel Award, the Creative Future Award, London Library Emerging Writers’ Award, the Leeds Literary Prize, Best Indie Book Awards and the Scottish Children’s Book Awards.
Gale also creates and delivers coaching, as well as training courses and workshops for authors and editors, and tutors for the HarperCollins Author Academy (fiction stream), the CIEP and other publishing bodies.
Her clients hail from all over the world and encompass trade publishers, as well as independent and debut authors. Whatever its genre, Gale enjoys spotting a manuscript’s potential and helps authors to develop and find their voice by means of constructive advice, collaboration and a good sense of humour.
Gale has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Italy, Egypt and Thailand. She is originally from Stratford-on-Avon and is a dim and distant relation of William Shakespeare. But these days, she’s based in Scotland, with her desk overlooking Edinburgh Castle across the Firth of Forth.
When not working, Gale is frequently found with her head in a book and devours most genres.
