OVERVIEW: Young widow, Ruth Steel, is fiercely protective of her tweenager daughter, Alice. Their closely-knit lives revolve around their isolated farm holding and the injured racehorses they are paid to rehabilitate. One stormy night a landslide knocks out the only road in or out, and Ruth discovers Charlie, late 20’s, badly injured in her barn with no signs of how he got there.

Alice overrules Ruth’s apprehension about helping the handsome stranger and they haul him into the farmhouse to nurse his wounds. Soon Charlie reveals to Ruth that he is the son of Alice’s surrogate mother, and needs a life-saving stem cell transplant. He claims Alice is a donor match. But with Ruth desperate to keep the secret of her birth from her fragile daughter, a three-way cat and mouse game begins. Charlie plays mother off against daughter, and as the balance of power in the struggle for Alice’s love shifts, we begin to realise that no one is entirely innocent. But Ruth will need more than the power of a mother’s love to save her daughter from the truth, and her own demons?
