HOUSE OF FUN SYNOPSIS:
Twenty-two-year-old Jason Green is on the cusp of making his dreams come true. He and his best friend Linwood have just completed the final round of interviews at New York City's biggest finance firm. As they begin their final semester of business school they're waiting to hear if they've been hired for the jobs that will change their lives.
And Jason's life soon changes. Just not in the way he was hoping it would.
One night he learns that his estranged father has defaulted on Jason's final tuition bill, leaving him on the brink of expulsion -- and disqualification from the job of his dreams. The next morning he finds out he's been hired and will start work after he graduates... IF he graduates.
Jason frantically tries to find a way to pay the debt but keeps hitting dead ends. His mother finally convinces him to face his father Jerry, whom Jason hasn't seen since he abandoned Jason in a bus station twelve years earlier.
Reluctantly, Jason travels 60 miles to his father's business: the House of Fun Comedy Club. Thirty years ago, Jerry built a successful standup and sitcom career around his trademark Wingman routine. Now, decades removed from his fifteen minutes of fame, Jerry has fallen on hard times, emceeing at the club occasionally and drinking every night.
Jason soon learns that Jerry plundered his college fund in an effort to keep the club from closing. Guilt-ridden and stunned by the sudden appearance of his only child, the old comic offers Jason his only possession -- the dying comedy club.
With no other option Jason decides to use his business skills to try and resuscitate the club and raise enough money to pay his tuition bill. The club's neophyte comics offer to help, desperately trying to prevent the only place they can hone their craft from shutting down.
Jason enlists the help of his friend Linwood, who hasn't told Jason he was rejected by the New York firm. Knowing that his friend's failure will create an opening for him, Linwood quietly sets out to sabotage Jason's mission. One night Linwood plies Jerry with drinks until he passes out, then plugs a sink and floods the club's showroom, framing Jerry to take the fall.
With the help of the amateur comics, Jason is able to repair the club in time for one last show before the tuition comes due. Knowing he'll only be successful if he can charge a premium for the show, Jason needs to draw a crowd -- and convinces his father to dust off his classic routine one last time.
The club is ready. The house is full. Jerry, backstage and beset by doubts, opens the dressing room door and welcomes Linwood in to share a drink moments before he's due on stage.
