Hello Marni,

I have been slowly writing a memoir for quite a while. The title is "Here Comes The Judge." My story begins in Midland, Texas where I was born in 1952 just down the street from George W. Bush. My father was an independent oilman, a 'wildcatter.' He had drilled a hugely successful oil well and the times were good. Like many independent oilmen those good times did not last. We moved around Texas as my father worked in a variety of jobs. Finally in the 60's we settled on a small ranch outside of Marble Falls, Texas where the population was 1,500. I was an urban kid entering the 7th grade trying to fit into a school with 50 students per grade. I was a good athlete so that made the transition easier, but I was also a really smart student, which worked against me. My first job in high school was working as a projectionist at the Uptown Theater where I got hooked on movies. This started a lifelong love affair with Cinema. In high school and then in college in the 70's I had some problems with the law and almost went to jail. Hence the title of my memoir. After college I moved to Hollywood where I worked as an editor with filmmakers such as Hector Babenco, Joe Dante, Brian De Palma, William Friedkin, Tom Hanks, Willie Nelson, Jack Nicholson, Sidney Pollack, Meg Ryan, Meryl Streep, and William Wittliff. I am looking for a mentor to help me shape up my memoir. Let me know if my story is of interest and how to enter the contest.

Best,

Stephen Purvis
