Farook Qais
FAROOK QAIS, pronounced “case,” is a British-born Muslim of South Asian heritage. Having started creating characters from the age of 5, Farook’s stories stem from his life experiences with a common theme of explosive emotive drama. He has written novels, but his strength is writing film and TV. Farook’s won the feature category of Roadmap Writers' flagship “JumpStart” competition with “Hi, Libido.” He has also been selected as part of the TV Foundation’s New Writers Collective with SitCom “Burac’s House.” Outside of screenwriting Farook’s all about “the game.” Football, NBA, NHL, NFL; where’s Farook? Based in the UK, Farook was raised by a single mother and a non-traditional family. With brown skin and in a diverse school setting he made many friends – who now range between Doctors to criminals.
Farook studied Creative Industries at the University of Greenwich. He has placed in six screenwriting competitions, as well as winning "JumpStart." His brand is that of emotive storytelling; drama, relationships, belonging and life lessons.
Farook's characters mirror his empathy. He writes to share narratives that resonate with authenticity and capture the richness of his own journey.
AARON and AMIRA lead a happy-go-lucky kind of life. They aren’t a typical couple that you would see in a mall. Amira is quite large, she’s big-boned and she’s not the type of woman you’d see on magazine covers. However, she’s a proud paralegal, the household breadwinner and she adores her husband. Aaron is younger than Amira – and he is good looking. His affection for his wife is unquestioned, but he has a high sex drive – and she doesn’t mind. Aaron works part-time at the local library, but his passion is to paint and he wants to become an acclaimed Artist.
The story begins with introductions to the aforementioned polyamorous couple and soon we meet TARA; a coworker of Aaron’s. Tara is slim, alluring and stunning. She and Aaron work at the library together and whether it’s before work or during lunch breaks, Aaron and Tara use each other for intimate release. Tara has a teenage son that she has to navigate around. She enjoys Aaron’s company, but doesn’t feel he’s mature enough to be the man for her. However, jealousy soon strikes.
Aaron and Amira have a mutual crush on a much younger woman; SAVANA. Savana has curves, but she’s Cuban, it’s like she was born with them. If Goldilocks was to look at her, she’s what would be considered to be “just right,” if Amira was too large or Tara was too petite. Savana goes to the library almost daily. She’s there studying to become a teacher. Amira strikes up a friendship with her, with the aim of getting Savana to become a play-pal. Savana however has a crush on Aaron. This is fine by Amira. She encourages Aaron to date Savana and also tells him that he can steer away from Tara, because Tara has become a threat. Tara asks Aaron to help with household chores and even gets Aaron to meet her son. Amira doesn’t like these advances in Aaron and Tara’s relationship, and she reminds him that he’s only supposed to sleep with her.
On the flip side of things, where Tara becomes jealous is when Aaron takes Savana on dates. Tara never had that treatment. She sees their dates unfold and so she decides to burst all their bubbles by telling Savana that Aaron and Amira are in fact a couple. Tara tells Savana that Aaron and Amira are mocking Savana in a game. She tells Savana that they are using her, simply to see which of them can sleep with her first. This revelation leaves Savana heart-broken and Amira too is left devastated.
Tara feels pretty proud of herself and she goes on to try and lure Aaron away from Amira. Tara tells him that they can become a power couple in the world of libraries. Aaron however, isn’t impressed by Tara’s actions. He’d never had her support for his art and he doesn’t love her anyway. Aaron feels awful about Savana and he seeks her out to explain his feelings. He profusely apologises to her and encourages her to go and see Amira. Savana can feel Aaron’s being genuine, so she visits Amira. Not only does Savana end up forgiving Amira, but she kisses her. Suddenly she realises that she’s as bisexual as Amira is. Aaron, in his apology, told Savana that he would stay out of the way if she and Amira wanted to date or to have a romantic relationship aside of him. Amira however welcomes Aaron home to celebrate their five-year anniversary; and Savana is there as an anniversary gift. A furious Tara tries to scupper things again, but to no avail. The happily married couple welcome Savana and they become a throuple, kicking Tara to the curb and continuing to live a happy life.
