Liana Brauchle is a writer and journalist who currently lives in Texas, USA. She often found herself getting lost in books when reality became too stressful, but as she grew older found something important missing in all of the books she read. What's missing was a strong, independent woman lead. Often times Young Adult books glamorize toxic or abusive relationships but never really show that it is possible to leave one. Drawing from the experience of friends, Liana began to write her first novel 'Like A Bird' to fill the gap.
The book follows a young girl named Annie who believes she is in the perfect relationship with her boyfriend, Steven, despite her friends and family continuously pointing out red flags. As often happens in abusive relationships, Annie struggles with eventually seeing the red flags herself but also believing Steven when he says he will change for her. Annie faces an uphill battle throughout the book as she finds strength in herself to finally leave for good, then seeks independence and healing as she moves forward with her life.
Liana hopes Annie's journey serves as a reminder that healing is possible and helps victims of abuse find the strength to leave bad situations.
