I'm 70, have 1 daughter and am recently widowed having lost my husband last December. Writing has always been my passion ever since I was a young girl, writing essays and short stories. My father's stories about my ancestors inspired me to write my first two books. He came from the former Yugoslavia after the 2nd World War. He was in the Royalist Serbian army and after evading capture by Tito’s communist forces, he eventually ended up at the DP (displaced person) camp in England along with a great many of his fellow soldiers. It was there he met my mum who was in the Land Army. Although my dad embraced his new country and culture, he never forgot his roots. Tales about his family and life experiences inspired me to write it all down. He never really spoke that much about his time during the war. It was only when I sat with him to get more detail for the book, he recounted more about his wartime experiences and it became apparent that he was an extraordinary man and had lived an extraordinary life. It was then that I truly understood what he and his comrades had gone through. I wanted people to take a walk in his shoes.
I like to explore other genres as well as historical fiction and have many plots waiting to be brought to life. My next book is a thriller but there is quite a way to go before it's finished. After my husband passed away, I focused my attention on writing a memory book dedicated to him. After 50 years of marriage there are so many wonderful memories, more than enough to fill several books.
