Greetings. My name is Elise Lowing.
I am an aspiring writer who loves a great story. I am particularly interested in writing middle-grade and teen novels, as I feel that is a time in life when they need the most inspiration. I want to write stories that inspire young readers to be the best they can be. And as a Christian, create works of fantasy that resonate with young readers and celebrate the works of God.
At the time of writing this profile, I unfortunately do not have anything professionally published. But that hasn't stopped me from reaching out to others through story. I currently have a fanfiction.net account where I posted fan works of stories. To me, it's my writer's playtime. Here are the characters, here's the setting, here is the conflict, GO!
My account is the same as my name here: Elise Lowing.
Of course, while I enjoy writing fan fictions for fun, there is nothing I love more than dreaming up worlds of my own. What is the history of this world? What is the power system? What kind of inhabitants live here? What kind of story can come from a world like this? The possibilities are endless. And all that is needed is a pair of hands and a skill with words.
As for characters, the stories that resonate with me the most are the ones that seem just ordinary. Everyday people who are called to do something extraordinary, whether of their own volition, or by a higher power. Which is why in my submission to the Page Turner Awards, I submitted a story of a girl who is ordinary (at least by her village standards), and throw her into an extraordinary adventure. A journey of self-discovery, courage, and becoming the best you you can be.
As for my writing life, I graduated from Concordia University with a BA in English in 2016. Shortly after, I began taking online courses at the Institute for Children's Writers. I am still currently taking courses, and working towards getting articles published.
My hope for the future is to continue to reach out to people through story and inspire them just as I have been inspired by authors before me. For me, the greatest award I can receive is knowing that my story has reached someone is some way.
