I am currently the head of the journalism department at City St George's, University of London and a former journalist who’s worked as a staffer for the BBC, the Independent, the Washington Post, the Sunday Times amongst others. An award-winning short story writer, my work has also been longlisted for the Lucy Cavendish Fiction prize and the Yeovil Literary Prize and shortlisted for the Exeter Novel Prize. I've had work performed at Theatre 503 in London, Rose Theatre Studio, Kingston, StageSpace at the Pleasance, Islington and Irlam Fringe. I am the co-founder of the live journalism company News on Stage and co-director of Contemporary Narratives Lab. This book is based on the extraordinary life of my Anglo-Indian great-great-great-great grandmother who grew up in the days of the East India Company, and who found herself at the centre of a scandalous court case. I live in London with my partner, two children and a badly-behaved budgie.
