Josje Weusten is a Dutch fiction author who writes in English and lives in Belgium.

Josje holds a ​PhD in literary studies and is an alumna of Faber Academy ​London. Next to a writer, she is a senior lecturer in literature, poetry, and creative writing ​at Maastricht University, the most international university in ​the Netherlands.

Josje loves ambiguous stories, which are open to interpretation, inviting us to consider multiple perspectives. In her fiction, Josje therefore aims to take Oscar Wilde’s words to heart that 'A truth in art is that whose ​contradictory is also true.’

Her short stories have appeared in Burningword Literary Journal, Litbreak ​Magazine, Flash Fiction Magazine, and Low Hanging Fruit. Her work ​has been nominated for Best Small Fiction awarded by ​Altcurrent Press in the category micro-fiction. in the category of micro-fiction. Josje is a regular essayist for The Independent Publishing Magazine and founder of the Telling Stories Magazine.

Her debut novel 'Fake Fish' (Sparsile Books, 2024) is a cinematic, dystopian story about the devastating impact of AI and fake news; think Atwood meets Tarantino. Fake Fish was selected as a 2024 Scotland's Book Week Debut Showcase by Publishing Scotland, and Books from Scotland.

Josje is currently working on her next novel and a composition collection of short stories.
