Norman Bacal

For 35 years I was among the leading film finance attorneys in the world, working with major Hollywood studios, and sitting on the Board of LionsGate during its hyper-expansion into a mini-major. I also built and ran, Heenan Blaikie, a Canadian law firm and home to two retired Canadian prime ministers. One year after my retirement the firm collapsed and I embarked on a new journey. I began with a career memoir, Breakdown, which quickly became a Canadian, Globe and Mail bestseller in 2017. Since that time I turned my hand to fiction. I have published two novels, part of my Shakespeare modern mysteries, as well as recently published Take Charge, a handbook for young professionals, on the soft skills necessary to build success.

My fiction reflects my years of dealmaking, law firms, boardrooms, and difficult personalities, who make such dastardly characters. They are filled with twists and turns from start to finish.

Born in Montreal (1956), I have been based in Toronto for over thirty years, living in Covid isolation with my wife, an artist, and staying virtually close to my children and grandchildren.
