Hi,
I'm Rachel. I'm a GP and amateur creative writer. I love writing about the grittiness of the seemingly mundane, the ordinary, and what, on the surface appears to be non-descript. Ordinary people fascinate me. I find them so interesting, especially when you find out that they are not ordinary at all.
My other half and I are both keyworkers. During lockdown, we found working and home-schooling our three spirited boys a challenge. But however bad it got for us, I kept imagining how bad it must have been and what it must have been like for colleagues working in the hospital in the midst of the pandemic. A whole fictional hospital came into my mind and I felt compelled to write about the people who worked there. So far, I've published three books on amazon.
My first book is entitled 'The Healthcare Assistant: Escape to Lockdown'. This follows the life of Ann, a hardworking healthcare assistant who enjoys her job. Partly because it allows an escape from the abuse that she experiences at the hands of her long term partner, Ray. She soon finds that lockdown affords a golden opportunity to escape from Ray. But will he be so willing to let her go?
The second book,'The Porter: Retribution in Lockdown' is about Dave, a hospital porter. A regular happy-go-lucky family man who just wants a quiet life, Dave is happily married to Audrey with two grown up daughters. His childhood, however, was not so happy. When confronted in work with an evil figure from his past, unrecognisable in his protective equipment, Dave finds revenge easy to execute.
The next book is 'The Cleaner: Evasion in Lockdown'. This follows the story of Kyle. Kyle is a sixteen year old boy who works as a part-time cleaner in the hospital. Prior to this, Kyle became embroiled in a county lines drug dealing gang. With a stroke of genius and a stroke of luck, Kyle managed to break free. But as lockdown hits, and county lines gangs find it difficult to operate, the gang want Kyle back.
Sometimes, when I walk down the street my mouth drops open because I actually feel like I've seen Ann, Dave, or one of the other characters in the books. So I thought I'd have a go at screenwriting.
Thank you for reading my bio, I never ever thought that a hobby would end up with me writing one book, let alone three and counting.
