Ruth Enright

Ruth Enright is from Halifax, West Yorkshire. Her ambition was always to write, whatever else she did in life too. Classic literature and the Victorian period in particular have always been a fascination, being a time so close and yet when life was so different in many ways, on the cusp of many changes. Her first published novel ‘Seahaven’, is a historical adventure for young adults, set on the wild East Coast of 1700s England, published in 2021 . Her second novel 'Button Box' (a children's time slip story set between modern day and Victorian London) was published in 2022. Ruth's third book, 'Clarionettes', published in 2023, is a historical novel for adults. It is centred around the new freedoms which Clarion cycling clubs brought, especially to women and is set in West Yorkshire, 1896. A group of young men and women will become conflicted allies, friends and lovers, facing dangers and finding futures they could never have imagined. A sequel to 'Button Box' titled 'Button Box - Rascals and Revenge' is at typeset stage and nearing publication this summer in 2024. All Ruth's books are published by Blossom Spring Publishing, an independent publisher, and they are available in paperback and e-book formats from Amazon. She is now beginning a sequel to 'Clarionettes'.
Ruth studied English Language and Literature at Reading University. She lives in Manchester with her family and works for Manchester City Council, where she has held a number of posts. She is now an Information Governance Officer for the Children’s, Education and Adult Services Departments. Ruth came to Manchester as a graduate trainee in Librarianship with Manchester Polytechnic before changing career paths and training for a certificate in teaching lipreading to adults with acquired deafness. Ruth then had her daughter and later became a local government officer at Manchester City Council.

Ruth has always kept on writing and started a blog a few years ago for her poems, stories and other items. Encouraged by readers, she has recently succeeded in having five short stories published by ‘Yours Fiction’ special short story quarterly magazine.

Ruth loves to read and enjoys writing in both historic and modern settings, experimenting with different genres. Ideas for her writing come from many sources, for instance the name of Robin’s Uncle Jorfant in ‘Seahaven’ came from researching her partner’s family tree! After enjoying the success of having 'Seahaven' published and 'Button Box' accepted, Ruth is working on writing a new novel, with a first draft completed.
