I became an English language teacher in 1998 and worked all over the world teaching English and training English teachers, and started writing to try to make the language come to life for my students. Before teaching, I worked as a waitress, a barmaid, a cook, and a book-keeper, sold oil paintings door-to-door and served petrol with a smile. All of these experiences provided me with enough characters and experiences to last a lifetime of stories. I write fiction in various styles, including crime and fantasy, and have an MLitt from the University of Glasgow. My short short stories and poetry have been published in various anthologies, and I've twice reached the final of the Bloody Scotland Pitch Perfect competition. I'm currently finishing my first novel, a crime novel set in Scotland in the 1980s.
