I have a PhD in history and specialise in researching the social and emotional impact of the First World War, particularly for gay servicemen and conscientious objectors, whose 'outsider' status meant they had more in common that might be imagined.This novel arose from my original research on gay men during and after the war, which has aroused considerable interest. The Imperial War Museum asked me to give an online talk as their contribution to LGBTQ+ History Month in February 2023.
