The premise is always a popular one, particularly when it exposes the degradation and suffering of women. The initial set-up is really effective as the focus is on the sights and sounds of normality in a rural setting. However, as the characters create the rising drama and conflict within the narrative, it felt as though the writer was trying a bit too soon to establish its historical context, resulting in some rather obvious exposition.
