Oscar Janson-Smith - Writing Award Judge

Literary Agent Oscar Janson-Smith is always on the lookout for new writers and is excited to be judging the 2022 Page Turner Writing Award.

Oscar is a talent and literary agent; he currently works for Gleam Futures, a full-service talent management agency. Gleam’s clients include Mrs Hinch, Kat Farmer, Grace Beverley and Dr. Julie Smith.

Oscar has worked to build an eclectic list of authors - ranging from chefs, business owners and musicians, to self-help gurus, astrologists and even former gangsters.

He has a particular interest in people with a good platform to amplify the work they do and has launched the literary careers of many digital-first writers.

When it comes to fiction, he is looking for 'someone able to effectively communicate and explore the silent screams of contemporary society. Someone able to plumb the depths of the most superficially mundane existences and lead their reader to reconsider their relationship with the people, and the world, around them - just like so many great authors have done, and continue to do, for me'

Some of Oscar's favourite titles are:
Such a Fun Age - Kiley Reid
The Heart’s Invisible Furies - John Boyne
Kill Your Friends - John Niven
20,000 Streets Under the Sky - Patrick Hamilton
Shuggie Bain - Douglas Stewart
Girl, Woman, Other - Bernadine Evaristo
Down and Out in Paris and London – George Orwell
Brick Lane - Monica Ali

I will be taking on two exceptional adult fiction writers for 2022. I have a particular interest in accessible, contemporary voices able to tackle difficult subjects in a compelling way, but am open to seeing anything you think I might like, based on my favourite books.
