Barry Kienzle is a born and raised Kentuckian. He is an award-winning author, having written three novels, "The Crossings," "The Indian," and "A Whisper in the Wind." He has also co-written a memoir of Willie Burton, a high school wrestler with cerebral palsy, "Heart of a Lion," and an autobiography of a Harlem Globetrotter, "Nate Branch - Playing My Way Through Life." In addition, he has written a children's book about Willie Burton, "Willie - A Super Friend!"

"Dream Rails" is the adaptation of his first novel, "The Crossings," which is based on a true story of his father, who, in 1932, at age twelve, hopped a freight train in Northern Kentucky and rode 1,100 miles to New Orleans to see Mardi Gras. He intends to continue screenplay writing by adapting his other novels.
