Gale Winskill is judging the Page Turner Writing Award in 2022 in the hope of finding new writers.

She has been an editor since 1993, both in-house and freelance, in the UK and Hong Kong. She has a wide range of experience across fiction and non-fiction, including structural and developmental editing and copy-editing, as well as proofreading and critiquing. She was previously a judge for a UK children’s book award, and counts various prize-winning authors among her clients.

Gale also provides training to both authors and editors on various elements of fiction writing and editing, and tutors for the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and the HarperCollins Author Academy.

Whatever its genre, Gale enjoys spotting a manuscript’s potential and considers helping an author to develop and find their voice one of the best parts of her job.

Gale has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Italy, Egypt and Thailand, doing various jobs: importing fruit, scuba diving, as well as writing and editing school and university textbooks. These days, she is based in Scotland, with her desk overlooking Edinburgh Castle across the Firth of Forth. Her clients hail from all over the world and encompass traditional publishing houses, private individuals and publishing training organizations.

When not working, Gale is frequently found with her head in a book. She devours most genres, although when very busy with work, crime thrillers definitely comprise her literary comfort blanket.

Gale is looking forward to reading innovative and unpredictable plots, with strong characters, that grab her from the outset and compel her to find out how the story ends.
