The Page Turner Plottr Award.celebrates the best story plots. The award is judged entirely on the story structure of your plot. Entrants submit an outline of their story's plot and arc, judged by a panel that includes a screenwriter and producer with Hollywood credits.
The Page Turner Plottr Award is proud to partner with Plottr, the visual plotting software for writers and authors. To protect your copyright, the submissions are not visible to anyone except the judges.
Who Should Enter
Authors, writers, and screenwriters with a finished or in-progress manuscript or script. Published (traditionally or independently), an unpublished manuscript or still being drafted, a film or TV series script optioned or produced.

Tips for a Winning Entry
Our judges want plots that grip them and readers from the very first page.
Here are some ideas to make a strong entry:
1. A First Turning Point: An early inciting incident that disrupts your protagonist’s life and forces an immediate shift in their goals.
2. Stakes: The tension should escalate from start to finish, with every complication raising the pressure, forcing tough choices, and making the protagonist fight for their outcome.
3. Midpoint: A clear midpoint turning point—the point of no return where the narrative shifts from reactive to active.
4. Cause and Effect: A tight cause-and-effect structure, where every major event is the direct consequence of the scene before it.
5. An earned climax that resolves the primary conflict with earlier setups and character choices, rather than a convenient deus ex machina.
6. Character Arc: A meaningful character arc showing an internal transformation directly driven by external plot events.
7. Complete structural integrity, ensuring subplots resolve naturally and the climax delivers on the promise of the premise.
8. Narrative clarity: An ambitious, layered plot should still feel seamless and easy for the reader to track.
9. The Overall Story Arc: A strong story arc that leaves the reader with a powerful, emotional payoff.
Goal, Motivation, and Conflict
Our judges also want to see your GMC. GMC is a simple way to check a character has goals and motivation driving them:
- Goal (what they want),
- Motivation (why they want it)
- Conflict (what's stopping them)
This way judges can see the arc is built with a purpose, not just events tumbling one after another.
If you can see all this clearly in your own outline before you submit, you're already ahead of the competition.
