Susanna Callaghan from York has been shortlisted in the Page Turner Award Writing Award for her thriller manuscript, Time to Die.
Susanna entered the Page Turner Awards, where published authors and unpublished writers of fiction and non-fiction across all genres can enter their writing to get discovered by high-profile judges from the literary world.
Time to Die is about sixteen-year-old Julie, who wants love and adventure, but the attractive stranger she meets can’t even remember his name. As she tries to help him, they uncover a 50-year-old crime and realise there’s no way to stop the research without someone dying.
With a love of the rugged, wild and beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire and small villages, Susanna wanted to set a mystery thriller in the countryside she knows so well, but to collide this setting with a completely different story and explore deeper themes of human relationships, love and loss.
Susanna believed that it was nearly impossible to become a published author, or even better make a career as a writer without an abundance of natural talent and an unusual amount of good fortune.
Since 2016 she has focused intensively on learning and practicing writing and editing skills, alongside her work as an artist. Encouraged by winning a prize for flash fiction and having three short stories published in anthologies in 2016, she has since been working on her first full length novel, completing it in 2020.
A literary agent has requested a copy of Time to Die and Lara and Page Turner Awards are hopeful of the outcome.
Susanna said, “The Page Turner Awards offer wonderful opportunities for writers to get their work out there and to have a real chance of finding a literary agent. With an agent interested in my manuscript, this is an exciting step towards becoming a published fiction author and achieving my writing dream.”

The Page Turner Awards, sponsored by ProWritingAid, gives writers and authors the chance to enter unpublished or published fiction and non-fiction books, where a group of literary agents and publishers will read the work.
Judges are carefully selected literary agents and publishers who are looking for writers to represent and publish, plus influencers in the publishing industry.
Founder of Page Turner Awards and award-winning novelist, Paula Wynne said: “There are writers from all walks of life, from manual laborers to academics. All with stories to tell, most of them heart-warming and moving. We’re proud that our Awards celebrates excellent writing and helps writers and authors to get their stories discovered.”
Success stories from this year’s awards include three writers winning literary representation, six writers winning a writing mentorship, five writers winning a publishing contract and thirteen independent authors winning an audiobook production.
