Merridith Allen is a Jewish, performance-trained playwright with an extensive background in martial arts. Other hyphens include actress, writer, theater director and theater producer. After battling societal norms her whole life, Merridith discovered a passion for telling stories about women wrestling with their demons (and quite frankly, kicking them in the teeth), with a special focus on female-driven martial arts, drama, action, and dramedy.
Merridith's plays have been produced nationally and abroad, and excerpts can be found in over a dozen anthologies through Smith&Kraus Publishers. Merridith has been the recipient of several prestigious writing fellowships from such organizations as The Sewanee Writer's Conference, VCCA, and the San Miguel de Allende Writer's Conference. Merridith is also an award-winning screenwriter. In 2023, Merridith was an Austin Film Festival Finalist, a finalist for the NYX Horror Fellowship, a Semi Finalist for the U.S. Writer's Lab, and published in The Sun Literary Magazine.
Merridith's day jobs have included story consultant, audio description writer, creative writing teacher, and yoga and martial arts instructor.
