I am a 29 year old UK national. I was inspired to write my debut novel, Maroon, while I was travelling in Colombia in 2013, and first learned about the history of the maroons, runaway slaves and native Americans who fought against their white oppressors, and in 1804 in Saint-Domingue ultimately defeated them and established the independent nation of what is now Haiti. After seven years of research I am happy to say the novel is now complete.
