Robert Webber is still the same incorrigible optimist of his youth but, nowadays, he accepts that it is tempered by a little pragmatism. Some might suggest that, in reality, his life is founded on chaos carefully disguised by a thin veneer of serenity!
For the past twenty years, Robert has been a faculty member at universities in both the United Kingdom and Finland, and that is where his writing began, authoring academic textbooks to support his teaching. But for many years, Robert knew that there was a novel in his heart struggling to escape. When it finally emerged, it was clear that it had grown into a series, of which Winston’s Spy is the first. Of how many? Who knows, but the fourth in the series is nearing completion, and there is likely to be room for (at least) another two!
Having lived and worked in Finland for nine years, Robert calls on the research he carried out in the country and the interest in the Winter War and Continuation War which gave him a sound appreciation of “sisu”, that undeniable gritty courage that is built into the Finnish psyche.
Currently, Robert lives with his wife and son in the Northamptonshire in the heart of England is where, both of whom have been the inspiration for his writing. Robert met his wife while living in Finland and his son, like the lead character in the books, was born there.
When not writing, Robert enjoys good food (cooking and eating), theatre from an audience perspective, travelling, and photography.
