Ee Zimmer

A Lover of story, in both words and pictures, I make books in collaboration with my husband Eric, an illustrator. I grew up in Hyde Park, Chicago and discovered New Mexico at a young age. I kept returning there, attending St. John's College where I studied philosophy, ancient Greek, and French. A love of language stuck, and a love of making things brought me to Colorado to pursue an MFA at CU Boulder. I have also always had a fascination with all things medical and in 2004 became a Sonographer who gathers interesting anecdotes while scanning people's intimate anatomy.
Stories find their way in and out of all aspects of life, rather like good friends. I work to cultivate them into accessible forms for kids. At StudioEeZimmer we have published a picture book and are working on an illustrated MG series. Eric and I appreciate the fact that stories land in so many different laps- passed along from hand to hand, borrowed from beloved libraries, or traveling the world via digital wonders. I have been a teacher over these many years, volunteer with BookTrust, and find that I am drawn back to working with small groups. At the same time Eric and I enjoy the reach of technology, creating images and animated shorts for instagram @studioEeZimmer & twitter. Books come in all forms; we instigate storytelling of all kinds and seek to publish real books for real hands.
