Virginia Betts is an independent author, performance poet, actor and freelance tutor from Ipswich, Suffolk in the UK. She has had 4 books published by independent presses: The Camera Obscure (Gothic and supernatural stories); two poetry collections: Tourist to the Sun and That Little Voice; and her debut novel, Burnt Lungs and Bitter Sweets, a 'punk tragic comedy' with a matching playlist, a 'brit-grit' journey through four decades on the mis-adventures of four friends. This was selected as book of the week for Felixstowe Book Festival 2025. She has had numerous individual poems and stories published in print and online (Acumen, Minerva Rising, Myslexia, Urban Pigs Press, The weird and the Whatnot, Anxiety Press, Pure Slush) and won or been shortlisted for some wiring awards. Her work has been performed on stage (Colchester Fringe, Headgate Theatre, Cambridge Junction) and BBC Radio. Virginia is a member of Black and White productions Theatre company and her roles have included Mary Boleyn, Maude Gonne, Kate Bush and Patricia Highsmith. Virginia also runs Results Tutoring and occasionally brings her creative practice into prisons, where she has spoken at a conference about her neurodiversity. She is a member of The Writers' Guild, Equity, Suffolk Writers, The Wolsey Writers and The Suffolk Poetry Society.
