Helena P. Schrader is an established aviation author and expert on the Second World War. She earned a PhD in History (cum Laude) from the University of Hamburg with a ground-breaking dissertation on a leading member of the German Resistance to Hitler, which received widespread praise on publication in Germany. Her non-fiction publications include "Sisters in Arms: The Women who Flew in WWII," "The Blockade Breakers: The Berlin Airlift," and "Codename Valkyrie: General Friederich Olbricht and the Plot against Hitler," an English-language adaptation of her dissertation. Her most recent non-fiction publication is a comprehensive study of the crusader states published by Pen & Sword under the title: "The Holy Land in the Era of the Crusades: Kingdoms at the Crossroads of Civilizations."
In addition, Helena has published eighteen historical novels and won numerous literary awards, including “Best Biography 2017” from Book Excellence Awards and “Best Historical Fiction 2020” from Feathered Quill Book Awards. Her Battle of Britain novel, "Where Eagles Never Flew", was described by Battle of Britain ace Wing Commander Bob Doe as "the best book on the Battle of Britain" he had ever seen. Wg/Cdr Doe added: "Refreshingly, it got it smack on the way it was for us fighter pilots." The book has since won the Hemmingway Award for 20th Century wartime fiction and a Mediacrest Award for Historical Fiction. "Grounded Eagles," the trilogy including "Lack of Moral Fibre," won a Chanticleer International Book Award in the category "Short Stories/Anthologies." The full-length novel which continues the story of Kit Moran, the hero of "Lack of Moral Fibre," has received rave reviews from critics including Kirkus Reviews, Feathered Quill, Blue Ink, Chanticleer and Foreword Clarion.
