I had an idea for a novel a few years ago and it wouldn’t go away...
As a widowed, working parent, finding time to write was difficult, so I enrolled with Faber Academy’s Writing a Novel course in 2023 to give myself impetus, deadlines and a supportive writing group. It made all the difference and gave me the confidence to complete WITH EVERY SECRET THING, inspired in part by my own recollection of what it felt like to go to Oxford from a state school in Northern England in the 1980s, and the question of how we judge each other.
My second novel GIRL IN THE HEADLINE was sparked when I was feeding my neighbour’s cat and was startled when the telephone rang. The implication of overhearing a potentially incriminating answerphone message gave rise to a character who cannot resist poking her nose in, with terrible consequences… It also explores how we judge people, so a bit of a common thread there!
My background is in charity marketing and communications and I have scripted and edited a number of award-winning charity films. I am currently taking a career break to focus on writing and my dream of securing a literary agent.
