I understand this isn't the typical query letter, but I wanted to introduce myself properly, so maybe you might know me. My name is Kirsten Mcmillen, a single mom with 3 kids, in school full time, working full time, finishing nurse practitioners' school, and have gone through a few things in the last year I thought may break me. It has been interesting to say the least. I have been a nurse for 13 years in critical care and am now finishing my NP and going to work in cardiology. I have not previously published, I have done more technical medicine writing. This novel is a half fiction but also a memoir of my story just told in a different way to be able to connect more with people.
I have been through a significant amount of difficult life moments over the last 1.5 years including marriage, 20 days later discovery of infidelity, 21 days later my birthday, then Christmas, then cancer, surgeries, all while trying to stay strong as a broken single mom for my kids. I did not want to write a sob story, a story of pain, I wanted to write about self-worth, self-empowerment and being enough for yourself every day. This book is about a woman who experiences a loss, you'll never know her name, or her loss. She is me, you, anyone reading. This is not a self-help book. There is no answer here. No guide, no steps. Just the ones she takes up a mountain. I hope this finds you, maybe at a time when you need it too.
