Lewis Kempfer published his first book, "Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life: A Memoir," in September 2019. The book has won four awards: the 2021 IndieReader Discovery Category Award for LGBTQ+ Non-Fiction; the 2020 Gold Medal from Literary Titan; and the 2021 and 2020 Silver Medals from Reader's Favorite Awards for Self-Published eBooks, the most recent award being top of the LGBTQ+ category and the 2020 award being for non-fiction: autobiography.
Kempfer grew up in Denver, where he began his writing, singing, and acting careers. He attended college in Phoenix, studying print journalism at Arizona State University while working at the city’s largest public relations firm. In 1995, when offered a development deal to be a country recording artist, he relocated to Nashville, where he earned his bachelor’s degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.
In 2000, Kempfer co-founded the Boiler Room Theatre in Nashville. While directing and producing at the Boiler Room, he wrote book and lyrics for two original musicals, “That ’60s Christmas Show” and “Billy Bob's Holiday Hoedown,” both of which played to enthusiastic, standing-room-only houses. His six-year body of work at the Boiler Room led to a dream job as an entertainment production manager and occasional producer as well as event creative treatment writer for the Walt Disney Company in L.A. His highly successful self-promotion package for Disney included a self-produced, award-winning short film, “From Concept to Completion,” produced specifically for the promo kit. It won a 2007 Telly Award.
After three roller-coaster decades, Kempfer returned to Denver where he lives with his best canine mate, Marty McPug and is working on his second book.
