Marcus

I have been writing in my spare time for many years and recently started reviewing the drawers and hard-drives stuffed with my work. I have done very little to achieve any form of publication, except a meeting some years ago with a gentleman called Timothy Seldes who invited me to New York. He sadly passed away before my work was ready for publication and I have never tried to replace him.

I have now completed a book of short stories in the genre of High Brow Horror, and a book of humorous children’s poems. In addition I started adapting some of my horror work into TV scripts and have won some international competitions, which piqued the interest of some well known American companies.

A few months ago on a whim, I decided to try and adapt one of my longer children’s humorous poems to a script. The process was utterly joyful and I simply was unable to stop, I hope you enjoy reading it as much. I have submitted just the pilot, the 2nd episode is also complete and the 3rd is on the anvil. Although I am aiming for an initial short series, it would not take much persuasion to push me into extending the ideas.

Auntie Joan and I have already moved far away from the original poem, she still inspires me, and pushes me to expand her horizons. It’s true that many of the best comedies are written by partnerships, by two people bouncing ideas and thoughts between themselves. But I inhabit all my creations, we scheme and talk and really make each other laugh. I exist inside every creature on every page, it’s a true multi-verse. The only limits are my imagination. Someone I met some years ago, a really famous theatre director, I was only fifteen at the time, told me there are no limits to imagination, only the necessity to make your ideas believable. Therein lies the rub, I believe in all my characters, I have to because they are actually parts of me.

If you ask why I entered this competition, it’s easy I want the world to meet my characters. It’s quite hard containing them within my own mind and the thought of being nurtured by professionals will expand my abilities and open the world to the myriad others living enclosed inside of me and who are begging to get the same chance as Auntie Joan.

I write, therefore I am.
