My name is Simon Wright, I am 52 years of age and this is my debut novel. My pseudonym is Rex Wright. I am based in Glasgow, Scotland.
I have absolutely no previous writing experience and in truth I had no firm plans to author a book, however when I retired from work my story just kind of developed and I took things from there. I have really enjoyed the writing process and as you will see if you think my novel is worthy of a read, I have plans to continue the story of Constable William Goldie.
I have always had a vivid imagination. I enjoy telling stories, entertaining, and making people laugh, so putting words onto a page and developing this story has been exceptionally exciting for me and I cannot wait for family, friends and hopefully the public to be entertained.
I retired as a police officer in October 2023, having spent 28-years in Strathclyde Police then in the National Force, Police Scotland. My training, my experience, and the people I met over those 28 years have supported my fictional story. As a Constable and Sergeant, I worked across Response, Community, Operational Planning and CID. As an Inspector I was a Police Incident Officer in Glasgow, a role where I took charge of emergency police incidents, such as violence, sieges, protests, and multi-agency major incidents.
On promotion to Chief Inspector, I took on the role of Area Commander, in charge of Renfrewshire, where there are some of the most socially deprived communities in Europe.
I was then moved to the role of Superintendent at Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, one of the most challenging policing areas in Scotland.
I ended my career as a Police Superintendent. In my day-to-day role I oversaw police recruitment, staff recruitment and promotions for the whole of Scotland. In addition, I specialised as a police tactical firearms commander.
Throughout my career I have always had an effective ability to produce reports, letters, and responses, particularly those which were challenging and were destined for the public domain and therefore risked reputational damage. As you may expect, my vocal and written commands have had to be formal, detailed, and accurate, so I have enjoyed the freedom of exaggeration and the poetic licence which come with a fictional story.
