I began writing at the age of fourteen, when I wrote, directed and performed a school play. Even then, I was fascinated by creating characters who felt real, flawed, funny and true to life. Although my career took me into the automotive industry for many years, the stories never really went away. The people I met, the conversations I had and the situations I witnessed became the inspiration for the stories I eventually began writing in 2020.
My debut novel, Certified, became an Amazon bestseller and went on to win the 2021 International CIBA Mark Twain Grand Prize, along with a Bronze Medal in the 2022 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards. While those accolades were incredibly rewarding, what mattered most was that readers connected with the humour, warmth and recognisable characters at the heart of the story.
Today, my focus is television drama. I'm currently developing several original projects, including Escorted, a six-part drama about a struggling Yorkshire shoe shop owner who secretly becomes a paid companion to professional women in order to save his family business. The project was shortlisted for the All3Media New Writers Collective 2024 and reflects the kind of stories I enjoy telling—emotionally truthful dramas that explore relationships, identity, loneliness and the difficult choices ordinary people make when life doesn't go to plan.
Whether I'm writing novels or television drama, I'm drawn to stories that feel authentic. I like flawed people, difficult choices and the moments that reveal who we really are when our lives are turned upside down. Humour often finds its way into my work, even in the darkest moments, because that's how life feels to me.
Ultimately, I hope to create stories that entertain, move audiences and stay with them long after the final page or closing credits.
