Award-winning writer and adventure world traveller, Ruth Millington, is judging the 2024 Page Turner Book Award and hoping to find authors who have gripping storylines in their contest submissions.
Ruth was the winner of the 2021 Page Turner Writing Award for non-fiction and is the creator and host of Ruth Millington’s Extreme Holidays Podcast. She has an MA in writing and tutors in life-writing. Ruth is also a lawyer, previously practising in The City of London before following her dreams of becoming a writer. Over the last 30 years, her solo travels have taken her to more than 100 countries. She has journeyed to some of the remotest areas of the world including surviving the 2003 earthquake in Bam, Iran, of which she received 3 bravery awards for her efforts to save 12 people.
Ruth was runner-up for Bradt Guides New Travel Writer of the Year 2023. Her other writing accolades include finalist/runner-up of 2020 Mslexia Memoir and Life-Writing Competition, longlisted in 2024 Stockholm Writers Festival, First 5-pages Award, and shortlisted in both 2021 Yeovil Literary Prize, Writing Without Restriction Award 2021 and 2019 Northern Writers Awards, NorthBound Book Award.
Ruth is an advocate for women’s rights and opportunities and speaks at schools across the UK about her travel adventures, writing and career choices, in turn challenging gender stereotypes around bravery, heroism and strength. Ruth has spoken extensively about the Bam earthquake, survival, trauma and mental health on national television, radio and in the press.
She lives on the edge of the Peak District National Park, England.
