This is cute so far and…
This is cute so far and reads as if it is truly a child's journal. And I mean that as a compliment. Sometimes authors forget to write it that way, even if it's supposed to be! I would suggest a good editor, though. Here are three examples from just the first handful of pages:
My Mama gave me this book for my birthday. (Mama should be lowercase: mama)
It’s important to remember who you are, and what happened to you. (No comma after are.)
Having never had a Papa, I don’t miss having one. (Papa should be lowercase: papa)
It's cute, and I bet the right age group would quite enjoy it.

Pitched just right for the diary of a young boy. The tone is suited to his voice which has a maturity beyond his years: very plausible given the time and setting. Since this excerpt is your calling-card, I would have recommended getting in to the drama in the Chapel a bit sooner. A great start nevertheless.
