But when Star meets a lost kitten named Jet, her adventure truly begins. She explores the city, visits the Natural History Museum, and even rides the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. Along the way, Star learns about kindness and compassion, helping animals in need and making new friends.
Just as Star thinks her day can’t get any more amazing, she discovers a mysterious cat lurking in the shadows of Broadway. But who is this cat and what adventure will it lead her to next?

Star the cat was excited.
Today she was visiting New York City with her family and she could not WAIT! As the Metro-North train sped away from her home in Stamford, Star’s whiskers twitched with delight. She pressed her nose up against the window of the train and watched as the world whizzed past.
“What will New York be like?” she wondered, her heart thumping like a drum. “And what adventures will be waiting?”
Page Two
When they arrived in New York, Star climbed into her stroller and the family stepped out onto the crowded streets.
Star’s eyes opened wide in amazement. Towering buildings reached high into the sky, yellow taxis zipped past and there were people everywhere!
“It’s so busy,” she thought. “Thank goodness I’m safe in my stroller.”
Pages Three & Four (double-page spread)
Three: The family stopped to buy warm pretzels. As Star nibbled hers, she noticed a brown paper bag wiggling on the ground.
“What’s that?” she wondered leaning forwards.
Suddenly a small head popped out and a tiny, black kitten looked up at her.
“Hello!” he miaowed, “My name’s Jet.”
Four: Star shared her pretzel with him.
“What are you doing in New York by yourself?” she asked. “Shouldn’t you be with your family?”
Jet looked sad. “I’m lost,” he said, a small tear trickling down his furry cheek. “I wandered away from my family and now I don’t know how to find them.”

Quite pleasant overall. I'm not so sure that it's got universal appeal, especially nowadays when many children are not so easily entertained. The premise is a bit too predictable for my liking and doesn't convey a great deal other than a few snapshots of New York and a very simple storyline that lacks energy and the kind of humour that appeals to young readers. I fear this might be a case of more style than substance.
