Jack The Pigeon
Written by Phil Green
Based on a true story, kind of…..
Dedicated to Jack the Pigeon, Skye and to all the animal friends out there who help you in your life. And to my nieces and nephews. You are cool.
Page 1
Have you ever been poorly? I am sure you have. You are laid in bed, bored with nothing to do. Your friends are at school, and you have to rest, but you can’t.
Page 2
Well William was not just poorly, he was very poorly. He hadn’t been to school in months, and he was tired of being in his room.
Page 3
He was playing with his toys when he heard a knock at his window. He looked over and saw a pigeon, tapping at the glass.
Page 4-
With a puffed chest and white patches. This was a friendly pigeon. Maybe he needed a friend?
Page 5
“Who are you?” William asked, noticing the pigeon only had one leg, he was hopping around like a little pirate pigeon. “I will call you Jack.”
Page 6 –
It was the next day. William was watching TV. Tap Tap Tap. Jack was back. “He must be hungry,” William thought. He needs to be full for his pirate adventures.
Page 7
William fed Jack popcorn. Who doesn’t like Popcorn? William and Jack did. William laughed at how Jack hopped around pecking at his food.
Page 8
“Let’s go for a walk, get some air.” Mum made William go for a walk to build up his strength. William looked up and he saw Jack following, flying high in the air.
Page 9
Jack followed him everywhere, when Mum took him for walks and when they were in the car. Every day Jack was there.
Page 10
“Does he think I have more popcorn? I have run out.” Jack still came to his window. “Maybe he is lonely?”
Page 11
A few weeks had gone by, and William decided to open the window. Jack came in. “Hello William.” William was shocked, all this time and Jack could talk.
Page 12
“I can’t talk, I’m a pigeon. But I can talk to you. Are you ready to go on adventure? “Yessss,” shouted William, excitedly. “Let’s play.”
Page 13
The first adventure was on the seven seas. William and Jack sailed on a Pirate Ship. They found treasure, they battled pirates. They won every time.
Page 14
They went to space. Jack was the first pigeon in space. A small step for pigeons. Well, they do have small feet.
Page 15
“Where else do you want to go?” Jack asked. “I want to go to America. I want to see the Grand Canyon and the Statue of Liberty.” William explained.
Page 16
So off they went to America. They saw an alligator in Florida. They saw a bear in the woods.
Page 17
They ate pizza in New York and celebrated New Years in Times Square. “Where to next?” Jack asked. “I want to see my Mum,” William explained. “I miss my mum.”
Page 18
They visited ancient Egypt. Look out there’s a Mummy, “She looks different to my Mum.” William said. “Less toilet paper.” Jack said whilst laughing.
Page 19
William noticed they were still in his bedroom. They had never left. “Bye William. I am off now. See you later.” Jack hopped out of the window and flew away.
Page 20
William and Jack had been friends for 6 months. That is a long time. William started to panic as Jack had not shown up that day.
Page 21
Mum came into the room. “William it is time.” Mum said. “Time for what, Mum?” William was confused.
Page 22
“It is time to go back to school now. You are better. You are not poorly anymore.” Mum explained.
Page 23
“But what about Jack?” William was upset, he didn’t want to leave his friend. They had been on so many adventures.
Page 24
“Jack who?” Mum seemed worried. “The pigeon, my pigeon friend.” William shouted.
Page 25
William was in the car, going to school. He hadn’t seen Jack in five days. Where was Jack? Was he on an adventure?
Page 26
He looked out the window. He saw a bird swooping down to the car. Was it him? Was it Jack?
Page 27
It was Jack. With his puffy chest and one leg. He knew it was Jack. Jack looked at William and then he flew away.
Page 28
William never saw Jack again. But it was ok as William was back at school with his friends.
Page 29
Jack always kept an eye on William. Often flying above when William wasn’t looking. Making sure he was ok.
Page 30
Everyone should have an animal friend. Because they are there for you when you need them the most. Who is your animal friend? When is your next adventure?

The story is very engaging…
The story is very engaging and well executed, with a clear sense of direction and strong storytelling. A careful round of editing would help refine the language and improve the overall flow, making it even more polished.

First, it's a cute idea. But…
First, it's a cute idea. But it needs quite a bit of editing. There are punctuation issues that will help a lot if fixed, and a good editor will help it flow better.
Also, I don't know if this was put in the wrong category or what, but it's in Childrens Chapter Books, and it is clearly not a chapter book. Not when you can fit the whole story within the confines of this entry. I would have a look and maybe talk with the people in charge about switching categories.

Thank you for the feedback.
That was an oversight on my part, thank you for pointing that out. I have changed categories.
Cheers,
