Cumberlain Rattlesnake

C.J. Walworth is aka Cumberlain Rattlesnake [the name of his production company.]

His spec screenplay works include:

- GAT FINGER, which is a superhero western-revisionist neo-noir, where a young man, son of a rancher, is grievously mutilated by a band of bandits in the 1880’s Nevada. He is saved by his uncle and crawls to safety in Virginia City, where he is put back together by his Father’s Sergeant from his Civil War days. The kindly blacksmith Ben and Becky, a local burn-scarred young woman, begin to put Jacob back together. Later, Jacob becomes the superhero Gat Finger, when he begins his quest to bring justice to the bandits that took his eye and killed his family.

- ORTEGA HIGHWAY which is an action/adventure neo-noir Indian-casino heist set in southern California. The protagonist, Rick Mallik works for his overbearing step-father, W.L. Norton, who operates a detective service specifically designed to deal with troubles on tribal lands. Mallik has been outta-sorts for two years, since his lady left him for a biker chieftain. Cultures clash as Mallik finds the truth of what really happened and all hell breaks loose as various parties jockey to take control of the rudderless tribe, which spins off about a billion dollar a year.

- A SOLDIER AND A CLOWN is a YA action/adventure story about two modern boys who get caught goofing-off in school, and are sent off to the Civil War battlefield national parks to re-write a school report which gates their entry into high school. The two boys begin an epic journey where they accidently set up a scenario where the 1863 Rebels might actually be able to win the Civil War from 2023. All sorts of shift happens as the two modern teenage boys try to un-do what they done. All the time, they are pursued by the psychopathic Rebel Justus who tries to kill and/or enslave them. Story exposes the evils of 1860’s thinking and juxtaposes this with modern mores and values in over-the-top comedic ways. Story incorporates writer’s family lore.

Screenplays, treatments, PDFs, artwork, Podcasts/MP3, etc., are available at his www.GatFinger.com web site. Novels, novellas, comics on amazon. T-shirt on t-spring.

Writer considers a sale to be a success and he will work closely with producer/director to make the work a reality.

Log Line: A grievously mutilated young man falls for a burn-scared young woman. Before they can settle down, the ruthless gang, who shot his eye out, murdered his family, must be brought to justice.

Tag: Django vs. Frankenstein-Scissorhands.

Pitch: Gat Finger is the story of … … Jacob Caine, a promising young man. He aspires to be a pianist, but his keyboard skills are that of a B student. His real desire is to be a cowboy in Buffalo Bill’s circus, which his parents will not tolerate. However, his wishes and desires are of no matter, when Californio bandits attack and murder his family and their ranch staff. If not bad enough, the gang mutilates Jacob and then burns the family ranch.

Jacob escapes the murderous gang of bandits and robbers, after being horrifically disfigured. His uncle heroically gives up his own life, to save the boy. They meet in Jacob’s dreams as he pleads for justice and retribution which spurs Jacob into action.

Before this can happen, Jacob meets Becky, a burn-scarred young woman, who helps save him and she sews his mangled hand back together. Jacob is immediately smitten with Becky, and the emotions are mutual. They form a fierce bond of loyalty which blossoms into love.

Jacob is then rebuilt by a kindly old Blacksmith, Ben, who is a gentle giant and a family friend. A frontier Doctor help Jacob heal, when he is not otherwise incapacitated with drink. The Doctor’s magical ointment heals and protects Jacob’s eye, which is held within a leather-sewn eye patch, which is affixed to his face with baseball-like rawhide threads.

During the re-build, Ben assembles a very powerful Gatling gun which affixes to Jacob’s mangled hand. The Gatling is aimed with the use of a Steam Punk monocle Ben built to protect Jacob’s exposed Optic nerve of his shot-out right eye. Together, the Gatling and the monocle give Jacob a fighting edge, so that he can seek-out the gang and bring them to justice and the Sheriff-Coroner, Barry Dingle, who is a world-class coward.

When Jacob dons the Gatling and the Monocle and other assorted western gear, he becomes the Steam punk superhero Gat Finger, who then seeks retribution upon the gang who mutilated him, killed his family, and stole an important family treasure.

Gat Finger frees an Asian man, Robin-san, a world-class laundryman, from two Irish men who kidnapped him from a local First Nation tribe. These two plan to build their Nevada business empire upon Robinson’s free slave labor. But, Robinson wants freedom and also wants to be a Gunslinger. Together, they form a two-man team that hunts the brutal gang who did so much damage to Jacob and his family. However, Robinson collects and keeps the Bounty fees, which Gat Finger does not want. Ben builds Robinson his own mini-Gatling.

Together, Gat Finger and sidekick Robinson track down the gang and bring them to justice in the Virginia City area of central Nevada.

Gat Finger’s Gatling and Robinson’s mini-Gatling gun do much damage to some un-yielding gang members, and it becomes Robinson’s job to scoop-up shot-off body pieces and parts. This makes for messy and disgusting and funny work. Thankfully, Robinson has world-class laundry experience.

As the important gang leaders are brought in, the remaining gang forms a plan to attack and free their leader, Marco, and his henchman, Joaquim, from jail.

At this moment, the spineless Sheriff Dingle, decides to get his boy-parts to the out-of-town doctor for the care they desperately need, just before the fight starts. Thus, Gat Finger and Robinson are required to defend the jail, and the quarry it holds, without the help of the law. Before the fight, Gat Finger sends Becky away, but not before he proposes marriage. He presents her with a family heirloom, which he recovered from a dead gang member.

The gang attacks and one of the robbers uses Jacob Caine’s father’s very powerful shotgun, which tears down the jail, and seriously injures Robinson. But, they fight back and overcome tremendous odds.

Meanwhile, after the apex of this battle, Ben returns and informs Gat Finger and Robinson that the bandits Marco and Joaquim have escaped and are on the loose. This sets-up the final confrontation between good and evil, where Gat Finger and Robinson track the bandits through the streets of Virginia City.

If things couldn’t get more tense, and more conflicted, Becky returns in fear for Jacob’s life, and she is promptly captured by the evil Joaquim, who has overcome Robinson, and put him at risk of death. Gat Finger finds a way to save both Becky and Robinson, and then he returns his focus to the bandit boss, Marco.

The final climax arrives when Gat Finger’s Gatling gun is disabled by a precise shot by Marco. Luckily, Ben had given Jacob his Civil War era black powder pistol as a backup, in case the Gatling should fail him.

Macro and Gat Finger square off and the dual intensity rises and it gets real. Marco offers Gat Finger temptations to join him and rule the West. But, Gat Finger outright rejects his offers. Marco offers more temptations, which Gat Finger further rejects, which fully infuriates Marco. The gun fight battle begins.

Becky rejoins her love as Robinson joins up and he offers to launder their ruined clothing, for free, after he recovers his health.

After this apex, Joaquim escapes and steals Robinson’s mini-Gatling gun, thus setting up a sequel.

This spec screenplay, GAT FINGER, is based upon C.J. Walworth’s original novel, Gat Finger, and his work-in-progress graphic novel of the same name, and his separate artwork and 3D action figures and toys and also other intellectual properties, NEC. Highly imaginative, entertaining and original gangster adventure with a touch of romance thrown into it. Well done.

Thanks Sean!

My Gat Finger was a labor of love. It took me many, many iterations to get it (near) right. Another round or two of re-write/re-factor does not scare me. Regarding the opening scene ... ... I was going for shock-and-eew. Your feedback is heartwarming.

Cheers,
