Roxy has always been in eight-year old Pearl’s life but now the fourteen year-old English Bull Terrier is no longer responding to her medicine and her future looks very uncertain.
One evening as Pearl sits with Roxy beside the Christmas tree wanting to cheer her up, she says she will give up all of her Christmas presents if Roxy could have a Christmas wish that would make her happy. Touched by such a selfless offer, the fairy on top of the Christmas tree grants Roxy the power of speech and in one short sentence Roxy reveals the secret of her stolen puppy, Bella.
Against the wishes of her parents and despite the fact that Bella was stolen eight years ago, Pearl promises Roxy that she will find Bella. To do this she enlists the help of her four-year old sister, Primrose, and her best friends, Milly and Reggie. The youngsters become amateur detectives in their search for Bella and against all the odds their investigation leads to old Mr Stanley and the discovery of a previously unseen digital photograph that reveals the only clue to the identity of the thieves.
Now with Mum, Dad and their new ally, Mr Stanley, they find that Bella is being held captive at illegal breeding kennels, but time is not on their side: Bella will be put to sleep after her next litter of pups is born.
Dad and Mr Stanley devise a daring raid but their escape with Bella is uncertain until Jack, the father of Bella’s puppies, sacrifices himself to fight off the vicious Doberman guard dogs set loose on Dad and Mr Stanley. Unable to leave Jack to his fate Dad goes back for him and brings the badly injured Jack home as well.
This family story ends happily ever after with Roxy enjoying Christmas surrounded by her family and two grand-puppies.
