FAYLINN - The First Fairy Queen

EXT. DARK FOREST – EARLY MORNING

A tall creature physically appears to change into a human being.

NARRATOR.

A lost mythology buried within the tides of time has recently come to light and research has shown that children of the Myolithic period had protectors during times of war. They took on the form of tiny mortal-like creatures with wings as fine as gossamer thread. They were called CYRENUS NAFAERES, meaning ‘Fairy’s.’But only for children, never to be seen by adults.

CROSSFADE TO:

NEW ANGLE - swoops back to creature changing to a human male, the last of its hairs fading away as a ferocious wind swirls his cloak about his body revealing hooves to feet.

KARDONITH holds up his hands to a darkening sky.

KARDONITH

Tonight my Lord let me have her

to take the vengeance so rightfully

mine. Keep the Sorceress in her

castle.

Catches a reflection of himself, pulls a face then sees his army behind him in particular two small goblins as they rub their hands together with seeming glee.

KARDONITH (shouts)

Remember no elves must be left alive.

I will regain my lost kingdom.

Touches sword, open and closes hands. A dragon waits nearby as he climbs aboard and holds his hands aloft.

KARDONITH

Onwards dragon to the Lady Sorceress.

There will be no Fairy Kingdom if I,

Slayer of Darduce, has a say in it.

A bright light appears in the sky and he holds up his hands to protect his eyes as his mouth falls open in horror.

FADE UP TO REVEAL

EXT – BRIGHT LIGHT – STAGE RT

KARDONITH

Come dragon we must fly and search.

MOVING SHOT - swoops looking around fields and forests. Pan into a lit clearing which reveals an imprint. Kardonith’s face dark and worried looking at indentation. A tall, imposing figure walks into a bright light. Kardonith falls to his knees and bows.

OMEGERINE

You fool Kardonith. I give you reign

to use the sorceress – too late, she

has produced the child, but NOT yours!

NARRATOR.

Two beings were forged from the very fabric of the earth – The Alpherine and The Omegerine: The POWERS who maintain a balance between ecstasy and agony, to create harmony and stability so that man could exist. The Alpherine produced Angels and Unicorns. The Omegerine, the Evil Slayer of Darduce, trolls and goblins. But without goodness, evil would endure and so the Alpherine needed to create something pure – maybe a being who would not be corrupted, sweet, gentle, perfect in every way so humans could see it, touch it, reap from it. She was needed to fulfil the prophecy laid down in the annals of the 1st world, where a beauty would change the world. Breathtaking in their beauty, ethereal and enchanting, the Fairy Kingdom has captured the imagination of people throughout the world……….This is their attempt to first create their own world between themselves.

Pan down to Kardonith in front of the Omegerine.

KARDONITH

Master, I beg of you to give me more

time. I will get the child and destroy it

before the ‘Fairy Dynasty’ begins.

OMEGERINE

(sighs)Very well, but do not fail me

this time. This is your one last chance.

Pan to Dragon as Omegerine disappears – MOVING SHOT – Kardonith climbs on, flies away

INT – LUSH BEDROOM. CASTLE IN FOREST.

A beautiful woman languishes on a huge bed and holds out her hands. She sings gently as she moulds herself around him. My dearest love, my soul sings as I see you here!

SORCERESS

My love, what a pleasant surprise.

Know your child has been born

and I have sent it as you instructed.

Kardonith turns to her with his eyes full of hatred, his skin slowly turning back to fur, his hands opening and closing with anger. BEAT:

KARDONITH

You see my dear, I am not who you

think I am and already know of your

unfaithfulness with the Alpherine

and how I was humiliated before

my Lord the Omegerine.

She stands up, then his hands move quickly to her neck as she starts to step away from him. His hands tightening around her throat and as she begins to collapse beneath him

KARDONITH

Now you must die and know that I

Kardonith will ensure your child

will never live a long life. The

pathetic little Fairy’s will never,

ever, gain their Kingdom and she

will NOT be Queen of the Fairy’s.

PAN TO WOMAN LYING DOWN. Opens her hand, throws a ball of light out of the castle window as she chokes.

SORCERESS

Never will you attain your desires

for I curse you forever, never to

break my curse!

She dies – he walks away as the sky darkens. PAN TO:

EXT – DARK SKY – LIGHT TRAILS IN SKY

PAN over to a lit forest clearing – a man and woman gather wood – woman points to sky.

MARILDA

Looks like a few star-lights have

fallen over yonder Thaddeus.

THADDEUS

Knowing our luck, they’ve probably

landed near us. We can go look if you

wish?

MARILDA

No don’t worry we need wood for

our wood store...

She hesitates – sky suddenly lights up

MARILDA

Thaddeus that was so close.

THADDEUS

You’re right dear but I prefer

to ignore it.

MARILDA

No we must go are you coming?

Thaddeus throws down his axe – picks it up again as if ready for battle. Walks through forest, when bright light appears, he falls to his knees, shields his eyes

CUT TO:

Marilda stands transfixed by lights.

THADDEUS

Marilda are you alright? What

is happening?

PAN TO: Marilda walks towards him holding a baby. As she looks at her she sings, gently smiling, tenderly stroking her tiny face. Ends song looking happily at Thaddeus.

MARILDA(excited) BEAT:

Look Thaddeus what the Gods have given

us – Our prayers have been answered,

we have been sent a child. Not of this

world but she is to become a great

Fairy Queen and start the first Fairy

Dynasty. She must be treated as our

own child until the time comes.

PAN TO:

Thaddeus opens and closes mouth – gathers them to him. They move away leaving a faint footprint.

EXT – EARLY MORNING - COTTAGE WINDOW

Two ugly Goblins lean on window ledge peering in as black bearded man peers out. URUK, pointed blackened teeth glistening with saliva dripping from his thick red lips. Tufts of orange hair stuck out from top of his boil covered face. He looks at his equally ugly twin brother.

ERIDU

Brother I can already taste this sweet

child we can devour her in one mouthful.

URUK(hopping madly)

Let me see, me see I must.

ERIDU

This girl is mine and when we find

the boy he is all yours brother.

URUK

Oh you are so clever brother but

did the Master say take them back maybe?

ERIDU (stamping foot)

So the master will get these infernal

brats then we eat them.

They laugh rubbing hands together, try to climb in slightly open window. It bangs shut, both panic then laugh, Uruk falls on floor with shock.

ERIDU

Good job we are invisible to

humans. That must be father of

the baby.

URUK

We must not go home empty handed

or master will kill us – we need

a good story, true or not!

ERIDU(SLAPS URUK ARM)

Stupid idiot. The master comes from

one of two supreme beings, ’The Powers’

Remember them? His evil is infinite.

He will not be fooled.

URUK (sad)

What now..? But, I will eat that man

one day. (looking at the father)

ERIDU

Rubbish we’ve lost our chance so

now we go for the boy.

CUT TO:

Walking along singing, Uruk is quite happy and discussing ways of trapping the boy as he is already walking and talking as he strolls along kicking up his legs.

EXT – DAYLIGHT - LARGE ELEGANT CASTLE ON HILL

Uruk sits down after climbing the high hill.

ERIDU

What are you doing you lump

of fat?

Uruk stands up quickly and falls down again. Eridu still cross with him.

URUK

Why, thinking like you.

ERIDU(cuffs his head)

You’ll never think like me, any-

way I’ve had a thought.

URUK(rubs hands together)

I loves it when you has a thought.

They are always so..so evil.

ERIDU(whispering)

Remember the last child we took? (Pause)

Well we need to find the entrance

like before.

EXT – CASTLE – WALL IN FRONT OF THEM

They arrive at the castle walls and pat around the walls, smile at each other and climb through a hole.

PAN TO:

EXT – VERY LARGE GARDEN LAWN – CHILDREN PLAYING

URUK(smiles)

Oh more children here than we can

eat. So let’s take a couple to eat

now, then take boy to Master.

ERIDU(disgust)

You are the most stupid of the

entire Masters stupid idiot Goblins.

Why am I cursed with this idiot for a

brother? We need to take the boy now,

no time to eat - PIG.

All hell will break loose once the

boy disappears.(Leans into Uruk’s ear)

and when that happens I don’t want

to be here. MOVING SHOT

Uruk hangs his head, but sees a little boy running so fast he falls over. A beautiful female picks him up laughing.

LADY ALALIAH(mother)

Oh my little Hippo you are rushing

things as usual.

Little boy touches mothers face and they rub noses. Uruk stands and Eridu grabs his neck.

ERIDU

We must watch and wait.

Uruk sits panting tongue out, sweating profusely.

URUK

Can I have a drink, so desperate?

He looks around, sees water, shuffles quietly over and puts hand in to drink. Weird looking child jumps up and down pointing to Uruk. Eridu looks across to see Uruk visible and a tall bearded man walk over about to grab Uruk’s neck.

ERIDU

Hand in water, makes you

visible fool.

Removes hand but too late. Tries to run away but a crook stick pulls him back and grabs his large ears.

EBUSUS

I am Ebusus Wizard of the Sands

and Sea, get your brother here

now and both become visible.

Withershins here recognised you!

Eridu and Uruk visualise.

EBUSUS

I know who sent you so tell

your master we have matters to

attend very soon.

Eridu ignores Uruk on journey home. BEAT:

URUK

But brother I was so thirsty

and I cannot think straight,

but Uruk feels much sorrow.

Please speak to me. You

have a cold heart of granite

I think.

Eridu stops, Uruk cannons into him.

ERIDU

Forgiving the master is not.

Apology goes to him but I don’t

want to be in your shoes. That

I don’t.

URUK(hangs head)

I wonder if I’ll be alive tomorrow?

CUT TO:

EXT – FOREST CLEARING – HORSE STOPS – YEARS LATER

Girl flies over horse’s head straight into a handsome slightly older male who lies on floor under her. Turning she looks straight into his beautiful brown eyes, long black dishevelled hair.

FAYLINN

Oh my I am so sorry it was an

accident. Please forgive me.

HIPPONIAN(struggling to stand up)

What do you think you are doing?

Try learning to ride a horse

before galloping.(sarcastic voice) BEAT:

FAYLINN

I don’t know who you are sir

but I’ve been riding since I was

born and it was a pure accident.

Besides you just got in my way.

HIPPONIAN(voice dark)

So you must be Faylinn?

Faylinn stands up brushing herself off. Long blonde hair cascading with bright green eyes sparkling as she looks up at him in surprise.

HIPPONIAN(cont)

Galloping like that is dangerous

and I had to put myself in your way

to avoid you dying!

FAYLINN

You stand there like a tall God,

arrogant, judging me, who do you

think you are may I ask?

HIPPONIAN

Your parents should have put you

over their knees when you were

younger.

FAYLINN

By the sound of your voice I

imagine you would delight in

delivering the punishment.

HIPPONIAN(smiles cheekily)

You are so right, it sounds

delightful, but we must declare a

truce for now.

Two riders ride over and both jump off their horses.
